Session A: WORKSHOP

"Online Gesture Drawings? Reading Students, Communicating Effectively, and Building Rapport Without Nonverbal Cues and Physical Space"

featuring Preetum Gary; Towson University

This workshop is intended for undergraduate peer tutors and writing center administrators.

In this workshop, we will discuss ways to incorporate creative resources into online writing center work, and develop ideas for communicating nuanced thoughts without the use of body language or physical space.

Session B: ROUNDTABLE

"Prioritizing Tutor Health and Well Being in Times of Distress and Crisis"

featuring Genesis L Montalvo, Giselle L Miralles, Kazi Rahman; Pasadena City College

This roundtable is intended for undergraduate peer tutors and writing center administrators.

This roundtable will focus on tutor mental health and how Pasadena City College’s Writing Support Center has implemented self-care and wellness in their tutor training program and everyday communication with tutors.

Session C: WORKSHOP

"The Tutor and the Hare: Slow Thinking in the Writing Center"

featuring Anissa Sorokin and Hannah Bagley; Stevenson University

This workshop is intended for undergraduate peer tutors and writing center administrators.

This presentation explores the ways in which the pandemic has afforded us the opportunity to embrace habits that support slow thinking during writing center sessions. We argue that slow thinking practices can make sessions more effective and supportive for tutors and students with diverse learning preferences.
