The Cabrini Writing Center’s mission is to support the growth of all student writers and their instructors within the university community through the provision of a combination of peer and professional tutoring, workshops and resources grounded in research and high impact practices.  As a part of the Academic Enrichment Department within Center for Student Success (CSS), we are particularly committed to advancing the university’s strategic goal of attracting and retaining a more diverse undergraduate student body as well as continuing to implement services for master’s level students that are responsive to changing workplace demands.  As a member of the Writing Center team, the Writing Specialist will assist in addressing our student population’s writing needs by ensuring the smooth operation of the Writing Center.  Moreover, he/she will facilitate the Coordinator’s creation of services, materials, programs, policies, procedures and professional development opportunities for Writing Center tutors who work with these populations.

The Writing Specialist will be primarily responsible for facilitating the Writing Center’s day-to-day operations involving face-to-face tutoring, online resources and in-center workshops.   In this capacity, the Specialist will work closely with the Coordinator, faculty, staff, tutors and students. The Specialist will additionally develop assessments of the Writing Center’s services, maintain records and collect data so the center is responsive to usage trends and the changing demands of faculty and administrators. The Consultant must be able to handle conflict productively, remain open to change and continually enhance his or her tutoring and technology skills in accordance with research involving composition, writing center theory and pedagogy.
