Position Overview    

The Coordinator of Composition Tutoring is a member of the Academic Success Center Team whose primary role is provision of appropriate academic support for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating the student writing consultants and for program evaluation. The Coordinator will communicate regularly with Composition faculty, the Academic Success Center team, and the Composition Committee.

Organizational Impact        

The Coordinator of Composition Tutoring is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and assessment of the academic supports provided to students enrolled in Composition. The desired outcomes to be met include the development of help-seeking behavior as well as improved writing skills, course completion, and retention.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience        

- Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s degree in English or Education

-Writing tutoring and/or teaching experience at the college level.

-Comfort with the use of technology for data collection, assessment, and presentations

-Strong communication ability

-Ability to work with a broad range of diverse students

-Fundamental understanding of tutoring process

This position requires the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, to function autonomously and in partnership with the Writing Studio Manager, the Academic Success Center team, the Composition Coordinator, and Composition Faculty, to work in a fast-paced environment, and to manage multiple projects in a timely manner.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience       

-Master’s degree in English with a concentration in composition or rhetoric, in Linguistics, Literacy or related field

Work Schedule and Total Hours Per Week    8:30am - 5:00pm; evenings  and weekends may be required
